Scrap from construction and demolition, what to do?

October 17th, 2018

The construction industry generates a lot of scrap, it is a known fact. According to recent statistics, this industry it alone is responsible for almost 35% of all residual materials generated in Quebec. That is huge! It is therefore important to have environmentally conscious habits.

The famous 3R!

What is the 3R? It is a comprehensive approach designed to minimize the amount of waste that will need to be buried. Therefore, it must reduce at source, reuse and recycle.

Reduction: the main goal!

Reduce; it is not discard which can still be used. In demolition, it is demolished more selectively in order to preserve what can be. Reduce should also be a way to consume better for example, buying goods more durable rather than disposable. Reflect on its consumption and avoid buying what is not needed is another way to reduce its own quantity of waste.

Reuse: which is no longer good for one may be to another!

Reuse, it is giving a new life to an object, allow its reuse rather than discard. In demolition, it is remove some elements of a building prior to its demolition and the back on the market.

Recycling: Give a second life by the substance.

Recycle, it is reuse of articles not for what they are, but for what they contain. In demolition, this is a significant portion of the operations. It is the whole of the construction industry in Quebec who made good figure for this purpose since the current rate of recovery of materials of construction, renovation and demolition is of 74%

Responsible waste management (version 2). Did You Know That?

June 10th, 2018

Recycling is becoming more and more integrated to our habits of life, and it is so much better! The day to day gesture of recycling enables us to preserve our resources by allowing to remake new with the old. Here are a few examples:

• Every year in Quebec, impressive quantities of waste are produced over 20 tons per minute, nearly 11 million tons annually, an average of 1.5 tons per capita...Ready torecover?

• Two hundred people in an office building use an average of 100,000 per year lenses; 100,000 packets of sugar and 1000 cups of milk. The solution: use a durable cup, sugar bowl and milk containing recyclable.

• Recycling one aluminum can save enough energy torun a television or computer for three hours.

• Recycling glass from a bottle to produce another saves enough energy to keep a 100-watt light bulb for 4 hours or 0.4 kW/ h.

• Recycling is not only good for the environment, it is also good for the economy. Indeed, the recovery and recycling contribute to the evolution of a thriving industry that creates at least three times more jobs than disposal.

Recycling is becoming more and more integrated to our habits of life, and it is so much better! The day to day gesture of recycling enables us to preserve our resources by allowing to remake new with the old. Here are a few examples:

• Each year 390 million returnable containers are not reported to the merchant or placed recycling. Taken together, these containers are three times around the Earth. That's nearly $20 million unclaimed by consumers.

• The first illustration logo recycling, the Möbius strip, as it is now known dates back to 1970. A student named Gary Anderson had created the contest to illustratehis schoolrecycling system. He theninspiredthe symboliccontinuityof the tapeone sidediscovered bymathematician and astronomerAugustMöbiusgiving the name to the famous symbol internationally recognized today.

• Gether recyclables, helps support a thriving economyin Quebec, that of thedevelopment of waste which accounts for 10500 jobsin all regions of Quebec have an annual turnover of 1.2 billion dollars.

• The materials recovered today offer amazing recycling opportunities. Thus, the recovered paper log can be used to make bedding for animals; Glass in the composition of concrete blocks and a fleece garment can be manufactured using recovered plastic.

June 10th, 2018

Recycling is becoming more and more integrated to our habits of life, and it is so much better! The day to day gesture of recycling enables us to preserve our resources by allowing to remake new with the old. Here are a few examples:

• Tons of paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and metal still take the path of the garbage bag instead of being deposited in the recovery and recycled into useful products. Same destination for table and garden waste that could be recycled by composting. In addition, hundreds of computers, tons of clothes, furniture, appliances, printer cartridges and paint cans are still deposited in the garbage when they could be reconditioned and reused.

• The principle of the"3Rs"? In fact, this principle can be applied to every day, wherever you are. The first "R" is to reduce waste, because the least harmful waste is the waste that is not produced. The second "R" is for reuse which aims to extend the life of existing assets such as paper, cardboard, clothing for example. The third "R" for recycling. Thus, recovering the glass, plastic and aluminum, can produce new everyday products. Finally, the "V" means the valuation either for composting or for the purpose of energy production.

• Twenty-five percent (25%) of all waste generated in Quebec comes from building materials? Reduction - Reuse - Recuperation - Recycling... words that one must have in mind when it comes time to undertake construction, renovation or demolition at home ..

Recycling is becoming more and more integrated to our habits of life, and it is so much better! The day to day gesture of recycling enables us to preserve our resources by allowing to remake new with the old. Here are a few examples:

• Eighty-five percent (90%) of construction and renovation waste can be reused or recycled? Bring your waste to a waste or eco-center rather than a landfill, thus helping to protect the environment. Waste reception and eco-centers are places where we can send its construction residues for reuse, recycling or recovery and also find cheap items such as old doors or other treasures.

• The rubber scrap tires are recycled into many products including soundproofing panels, soccer field’s surfaces, flower boxes. It is also used in the manufacture of coatings that can be used as floor covering or protecting a staircase or a roof.

• Recycle aluminum products can save 95% of the energy required to make new from virgin materials. Recycled aluminum is used to make bicycles, baseball bats, automobile parts, garden furniture, building materials, packaging paper andother...cans of beer or soft drink!

June 10th, 2018

Recycling is becoming more and more integrated to our habits of life, and it is so much better! The day to day gesture of recycling enables us to preserve our resources by allowing to remake new with the old. Here are a few examples:

• 24,000 metric tons of plastic bags end up in the oceans every year. They represent 60 to 95% of waste observed on the sea bed. One million sea birds, 100,000 sea mammals and countless fish die every year because they have swallowed plastic bags(...) In Quebec, about one billion bags are sent to landfill eachyear. They will take about 400 years to decompose. Its worth to buy a reusable shopping bag that can bring with it.

• Although recyclable, the majority of plastic bags are being eliminated. The situation is improving, because about 60% of Quebec's population now has access to curb side service that accepts plastic bags.

• Recycled paper not only helps the trees? It also allows reducing by 35% the pollution of water from the paper manufacture. In addition, each tons of paper requires more than 26500 liters of water! Then recycle!

• One liter of oil can contaminate more than 2 million of liters of water. If you throw your used motor oil in a sump or unplanned bin for this purpose, the oil will go to the lakes, the rivers and wells. Bring your used oil to a recycling center please!

2 steps to manage waste on a construction site

June 10th, 2018

First step: planning

At the planning stage of your project, take an inventory as possible of the materials you have to send to the recycling of those you can reuse and those that you do not have the choice to send the dump. This estimate is based on the type of work you will undertake. Demolition causes a lot of concrete type of residues, gypsum andwood.Finishingworkonthem will bemoreloadedcartonsand plastic. Thisstep willprovidethe space youneed to devoteto the storage of materials. He will also be easier to assess the number of containers you need and whether you will have a lot of trips to the recycling center or landfill.

Also very important: to identify the sorting centers and recyclers that will take the different materials you have to deal with. This step will serve you in choosing the best solution for you: you will be renting a single container that you will sort later; you bring your own reusable materials to a recycling center or to a neco-center? Will you deal with a company that will provide a turnkey service? Evaluate the costs of each scenario based on the number of containers for rent and the number of trips to be made.

Step Two: sort

Once you start the project, make sure that the spaces dedicated to the sorting of different materials are clearly identified. If you work with a team, make sure that everyone knows where to put what materials. Communication is the key to a successful site waste management. Feel free to post your instructions or remind your requirements at site meetings.

The company, which has a strong environmental conscience, aims to make recyclable waste a resource safe for the future. Contribute to sustainable development, it is also minimize landfill for the well-being of future generations.

Multi Recyclage hopes to raise awareness among all municipalities and businesses in Quebec to the recycling and encourage them to send their dry materials in a sorting center rather than burying them.

Multi Recyclage has built a reputation of excellence through its comprehensive offer .of services and its strong commitment to the environment and for the future. The company, which is in constant growth, wants to show the know-how lavallois in all of Quebec in providing sustainable solutions for the management of dry materials.

The recycling of wood

May 22nd, 2018

At the present time, most of the entrepreneurs, sensitized to the recovery and recycling of dry materials, have widely use of containers to retrieve and transfer these same materials to centers for sorting and packaging. It is also possible to recover and recycle the wood materials at the time of the demolition of a building.

The deconstruction selective allows you to separate and sort the materials with a view to the recycle and the upgrade. More and more cities in North America offer today services for selective collection and sorting of materials of deconstruction in wood in order to revalue the by-products such as panels of wood fibers, mulch or for the production of bioenergy.

Treated Wood or plant

- Reused for the same job. For example, the forms used to pour the concrete can be cleaned and reused. The poles of signaling non-damaged may be reused.
- Shredded to make mulch, landscaping, fuel, structuring agents or the compost.

Natural wood and strain

- Energy recovery
- Amendment to the soil
- Manufacture of paper
- Mulch
- Compost
- Litter
- Recycled and reused as a construction material

What does recycling give?

May 22nd, 2018

Recycling is becoming more and more integrated to our habits of life, and it is so much the better! The gesture of recycling on a daily basis preserves our resources by allowing redoing the new with the old. Here is specifically what happens to the materials that you recycle. From the metals is done:

Metals (Steel)

- other metal parts
- cans
- nails
- automobiles
- flat rolled to make appliances
- various steel structures (for example: beams) for bridges or buildings

Metals (Aluminum)

- cans
- paper and plates of aluminum
- other aluminium products
- automotive parts (cylinder heads, rims, gearboxes, etc.).

Use a container … for the Environment

February 12th, 2018

The environment is the ultimate challenge of the 21st century. At the pace the human race consumes the resources that the Earth gave him; it will be sorely missed time to prepare for a healthy and ideal future for the generations to come. The small gestures must begin now. The Quebec population renovates a lot and often. The rental of containers allows you to make the waste management and rubbish in places which are created exactly for this purpose. The recyclable materials are routed correctly to be reused. If everyone does his part, the environment of tomorrow will be more promising.

As a consumer, the containers’ rental can help you to save a precious amount of time. If you make renovations on your home, you will need to get rid of many materials. In leaving it up to the experts to take care of your construction waste, you, then can concentrate to manage your site of work, without hassle. You only need to fill the container the size of your choice and the company will collect the retrieve. As simple as that! It will give you time to prioritize the quality of your work!

Buy recycled, it is contributing to environmental protection

February 12th, 2018

The Quebec Policy on Waste Management as an important objective to eliminate a single residual material in Quebec, the ultimate residue.

- Bring to 700 kg per capita amount of disposed waste
- 70% Recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and metal
- Recycle 60% of organic matter
- Recycle or reclaim 80% of residual concrete, brick and asphalt
- Sort at source or route to a sorting center 70% of construction waste, renovation and demolition

Buy products with recycled content to create a sustained demand for secondary materials, that is to say, from recycling materials that go into the manufacture of new products. And it promotes the development and maintenance of new markets for materials otherwise destined for disposal.

Thus, buying recycled products, it protects the environment in two ways:

- Using residual materials in the manufacture of new products, it avoids the need for removal for disposal, which also reduces greenhouse gas emissions that have been generated in the process.
- By encouraging the use of secondary materials in the manufacture of new products rather than virgin material, natural resources are preserved.

The Scraping of containers: essential in winter

February 7th, 2018

During the winter season, note that Multi Recyclage offers when needed the containers scraping service in the leasing to their customers. Be aware that scratching is required only when debris remain stuck in the bottom of a container. This happens of course in the winter due to frost. A backhoe is used to rake the bottom of the container. In this way, scraping allows the customer to have a free container of debris. As shown in the pictures here above, you can see the shovel loosen debris completely frosted cold in the bottom of the container.

For a very reasonable price, this service has become essential in the residential and business customers. Please join us to learn more about this practical service in winter.

Reuse of waste materials

January 28th, 2018

The reuse: as many benefits as possibilities. The benefits of reuse are multiple and congregate in the three spheres of sustainable development that are the economy, society and the environment:

- if the reuse is an act substitute to the acquisition of a new good, it helped in the preservation of natural resources by the reduction at the source
- by contributing to the lengthening of the duration of the life of an asset, the reuse delayed step of a transformation more important which requires more energy, such as the recycling
- the reuse fact unborn many favorable opportunities on the economic plan (advantageous prices and creation of jobs)
- the reuse allows people less fortunate to acquire goods at low cost with charities
- the reuse constitutes in many of the cases an option more environmentally sound than the elimination.

The reuse actors in Quebec

The reuse of a wide variety of articles explains the presence of actors very diversified in this sector in Quebec, whether they are charities or to the search for business opportunities. It is estimated that the non-profit businesses represent approximately two thirds of all actors of the reuse. These companies are of different natures: social economy enterprises, charities, work centers adapted (WCA), corporate training centers and recovery (CTCR), religious institutions or charitable, etc.

Building materials become what?

January 28th, 2018

What building materials sorted? In Quebec, several materials can be recycled and can be sorted separately. Here’s the list:

Cement concrete and bricks

They can be used as fill material or drainage stone. Crushed aggregate, they can be integrated in the production of cement concrete or bituminous concrete.

Reinforced concrete

It is repackaged for reinforcing steel, beams and frames.

Wood

Used for composting, plywood panels, chipboard molded pallets, briquettes for homes, bedding, fuel pellets, mulch, acoustic panels.

Cardboard

Production of new cardboard or energy recovery.

Gypsum

It is ground to a fine powder and used for fertilizer, bedding, sound insulation or thermal insulation.

Ferrous metals (steel beams, plumbing materials, pipes, window frames, etc.) and non-ferrous metals (cabling and wiring, sheet metal and aluminum siding, etc.)

Once melted, they are used to make new products.

The recycling industry and its jobs

January 28th, 2018

Considered formerly as of vulgar waste, residual materials are today resources to exploit, in the same way as the raw materials. Their implementation in value not only protects the environment, but it also stimulates a whole industry!

In Quebec, more than 10,000 workers are scrambling to recover, to sort, to reuse, to recycle and to valuing of the substances that would be otherwise destined for disposal.

In addition to the firms that perform the selective collection, the industry has over 40 centers of traditional sort, of even an equivalent number of sorting centers specialized in the construction waste, renovation and demolition.

The industry also includes companies that recover, recycle and recover specific materials; there are also the metal shredders and about thirty compost sites managed by companies.

The industry also includes the manufacturers of equipment for businesses for the collection, sorting, recycling and recovery of waste materials as well as management consultants of residual materials.

Looking for Workers

The industry is alive and well and hiring. In the sub-sector of recycling, there is a shortage of truckers, of agents of sorting.

However, the needs of sorters could decline over the next few years, because the trend is for the automation.

Rent a container? A few tips…

January 28th, 2018

The right size… The right price

The containers of Multi Recyclage have three different sizes: 10, 20 and 40 yards. It is important to choose the most suitable container for your work. Don’t hesitate to ask advices to this subject. Multi Recyclage will be pleased to suggest other options in case of need.

What is a sorting Center of dry materials?

January 28th, 2018

The main objective of a sorting Center of dry materials is to allow citizens and entrepreneurs to dispose of materials which are not allowed in the collection of household waste or either destined for a re-Valuation-recovery of materials they wish to dispose of.

Therefore, the establishment of the center for sorting allows you to actively participate to decrease the amount of bulky residues destined for landfill sites.

What is a dry material?

This is called dry materials, the residue from construction, renovation and demolition. This is made usually of construction materials that no longer have value useful, for example: shingles roof worn. Once retrieved, these materials will enter in the composition of new objects.

Multi Recyclage recycled not less than 75% of materials received in its recycling centers. Their centers for sorting and transshipment allowing the recovery of debris from construction or demolition are open to entrepreneurs as well as to individuals. The company plans to also use these places as location for research and experimentation in the field of recycling and recovery.
